I know this because I get asked a lot, plus the Google search terms “should I paint my new construction home?” is one of the most frequent ones that lead people to our website. Google (and other search engines) look at links from other sites as “votes.” These votes help them identify which page on a given topic (out of thousands of similar ones) deserves to be ranking at the very top of the search results.

There’s no doubt that many backlinks are worthless and should be deleted. We didn’t make it any more clear that we don’t recognize that backlinks are important to any page, but they definitely are. And they make it harder for us to remember who you are, which page, and which page on the web.

The backlinks are just one of the many things that are “not a good way to link to a website.” You can also easily get banned for linking to a website you don’t own (which isn’t to say that you’ll be banned for linking to a website that you do own) or for linking to a website with a non-existent webpage.
I don’t know if you can find a website with just two backlinks. You could google the place and see a few that are useful, but it would be a bit overkill for the whole thing.
